You might not know this but Melanie Meriney was our first ever interview on Raised Rowdy just over a year ago. What a year it has been. A BIG thank you to all of you reading this for sticking with us. Just had to get that out but, enough about us on to Melanie and her new single.

For the last year Miss Meriney has been doing what Nashville musicians do, writing the best songs she can, collaborating with friends that have become family and trying to make her way in this crazy musical world.  We think she really found something special with her newly released single “Flame”.

Flame, which is a solo write by Melanie, comes to us through the eyes of a person with a scarred heart.  This is a common theme in country music, but for good reason, it is a very common theme in life.  The heart wants what it wants and there is no timeline you can put on when it will heal or how the sight or mention of an ex can start the cycle of emotions reeling over again.

Melanie explains the importance of this song as : “This song speaks to me because it’s about laying your heart on the line even when there’s no guarantee of a happy ending. All you can do is be true to yourself and hope that God has a plan.”

That is all we really have in the world, is a shot at success and a prayer. This song really shows that you win some and you lose some but you have to keep moving along.

Check out the words and then hear the song. This is “Flame”

“Flame”

When you let the years come in between a perfect, broken love
And the people we’ve become
Space and time are supposed to make it easy

I imagined it a million times, how I’d feel if you showed up
Wonder if you know how much
You standing here both lights me up and kills me

You ask me how I’ve been
We small talk and fake it
I hope you can’t hear my voice shaking

You got your new life, boy, you wear it so nice
Just like you got it all together, carrying yourself better
Than a leave-it-all-behind suitcase
And I’m still carrying a flame

I’m searching every movement for the smallest little sign
I can’t tell what’s on your mind
Is there any part of you that can’t forget me?

And I know you must be seeing someone too, but I can’t ask
Feels like no time has passed
It’s stupid how something so small could wreck me

You ask me how I’ve been
We small talk and fake it
I hope you can’t hear my heart breaking

You got your new life, boy, you wear it so nice
Just like you got it all together, carrying yourself better
Than a leave-it-all-behind suitcase
And I’m still carrying a flame

You got your new life, and I got mine

Seems like you got it all together, carrying yourself better
Than a leave-it-all-behind suitcase
But if you ever wonder like I still wonder,
Gonna put it out there just in case:
I’m still carrying a flame
Yeah, I’m still carrying a flame
