Southall Keeps It Rolling With ‘Kinfolk’

Southall has built a reputation on consistency, and Kinfolk does nothing to shake that. From their debut up to now, they’ve maintained a solid track record that a lot of bands would envy. What’s more impressive, though, is how their sound has evolved along the way. They’ve managed to explore new textures and directions without ever losing that core identity that makes a Southall record instantly recognizable.

One thing that stands out about Kinfolk is how intentional it feels as a full project. Each Southall release tends to carry its own aesthetic, and this one leans heavily into a wide emotional spectrum. Listening front to back feels like moving through different states of mind – each track offering its own mood while still contributing to the bigger picture. It’s cohesive without being one-note, which is a tough balance to strike.

There are a few standout moments that really anchor the record. The title track sets the tone well, while Worse Things digs a little deeper with a more thoughtful and reflective edge. Then there’s Okie Pokin’ Out, which easily ranks as a highlight, bringing a bit of personality and energy that sticks with you after the listen. These tracks showcase the range the band is working with right now.

At this point, calling Southall “up and comers” just doesn’t fit anymore. These guys have put in the work, grinding longer than most, and it’s finally translating into the recognition they deserve. As a fan, it’s satisfying to see that growth pay off. Kinfolk stands as another strong addition to their catalog and a clear snapshot of a band that knows exactly who they are – and right now, they’re in a really good spot.
