Dylan Ault Brings it Back with ‘Everybody’s Trying to Be My Baby’

Everybody loves a good cover, and there was a time when nothing hit quite like a Carl Perkins tune back in the day—heck, even The Beatles knew the power of that catalog. Dylan Ault taps straight into that lineage with his take on Everybody’s Trying to Be My Baby, delivering a version that feels respectful, energized, and very much alive. It’s not just a nod to the past; it’s a reminder of how timeless this kind of rock ’n’ roll really is.

From the jump, Ault hones in on that vintage sound, and the production follows suit. The rockabilly spirit is ever-present, from the tone choices to the overall feel, and he absolutely kills it. There’s an authenticity here that can’t be faked—this doesn’t sound like someone trying to play old-school rock ’n’ roll, it sounds like someone who genuinely understands it.

The band deserves serious credit too. They’re locked in tight, driving the song forward with chugging and chiming guitars paired with a perfectly shuffling backbeat. It’s the kind of groove that makes the track feel effortless while still packing plenty of punch, giving Ault the ideal foundation to shine on top.

Vocally, Ault is right at home, paying proper tribute to the founding fathers of rock ’n’ roll without slipping into imitation. As he puts it, “It’s the type of music I grew up listening to, aside from traditional country music. Not only performing it, but writing this style of music feels most natural to me.” That comfort comes through loud and clear. Dylan Ault is a gem, and if this release is any indication, he’s absolutely an artist worth keeping a close eye on as he continues carving out his lane.
