At the ripe age of 22 years old, Missouri native, Sam Barber, has already released big-time singles and a 28 song album. Along with EP’s, collaborations, nationwide tours, Barber has implanted himself as a strong presence in the country music scene.
Barber, who is set to release his second studio album on April 3rd titled Broken View, released a new single that should set the tone for the rest of the album titled, Borrowed Time.
The single contains Barber’s distinctive and raw voice, but is also accompanied with a heavy thud of drum and guitar to start.
Opening up the song is a yell which translates into the strum of a guitar and banging of drums.
As the song advances, it begins to sound very different from the average Barber song, but in a good way. The crescendo and the volume of the instruments builds up the intensity of Barber’s emotions.
Barber’s lyrics lend to the idea of a breakup and the lyrics let the audience know that it wasn’t a pretty one.
“Before you leave, take your disease. Then again, I’m aware that you tend to come and go as you please. Before you go, just know you’re wrong.”
The song writing is pristine per usual for a Barber song. Barber, who blew up with a social media video of him recording his hit single, Straight and Narrow, has evolved so much as an artist.
From simply strumming an acoustic guitar in a valley, to creating a studio masterpiece like Borrowed Time, the rest of the album should be a treat.
Barber’s full album will be released on April 3rd and it will have 12 additional songs to go with Borrowed Time.
