Parker McCollum Releases Fan Favorite ‘Big Ole Fancy House’

As part of Parker McCollum’s upcoming deluxe version of his self-titled album, “Parker McCollum,” the Texas native released Big Ole Fancy House on January 23.

Big Ole Fancy House definitely has the same sound as McCollum’s other songs on his self-titled album when it comes to instrumentals and themes.

The first 20 seconds of the track is a cool acoustic guitar solo that leads into the first line, “Big ole fancy house, bunch of fancy cars.” Underneath those lyrics lies the buildup of drums, which builds up some anticipation for the rest of the single.

Big Ole Fancy House was originally teased by McCollum and many fans, including myself, expected it to be on the album, but it did not make the cut.

Continuing on with McCollum’s writing, the song takes a turn with the line, “Flowers on the windowsill, looking like they’re ‘bout to die, Yeah this big ole fancy house, is just eating me alive.”

From these lyrics alone, we can tell that McCollum is sticking with the theme of heartbreak, his bread and butter.

McCollum does a great job of using imagery and uses flashbacks a ton to show how much this heartbreak is affecting him, or in this case, eating him alive.

“Guess it’s true, I can’t live with the memory. What do I do, I thought that I could live without you and I lied,” is another line that stood out to me as well.

From this, we can tell that it was a breakup and now McCollum, or the protagonist in the song, now has to live this luxurious life with his big fancy house and fancy cars all alone.

Something I love about McCollum’s songs, outside of his addicting and smooth voice, is the electric guitar. Underneath the bridge, is a cool electric guitar that gives the listener a break from the heartbreak and heartfelt lyrics.

Overall, I was very pleased and excited to throw some of the Limestone Kid on. The song fit into McCollum’s mold perfectly and he did not skip a beat.

McCollum’s full deluxe album will be released on March 20.
