Is there anyone in the Texas scene more electric than Treaty Oak Revival right now?
The rowdy, rockin’ group tried something a little different with their May 23rd release, The Talco Tapes. The album features eight stripped-down tunes from Treaty Oak’s first two albums including See You in Court, the Gold-certified I’m The Worst and Ode To Bourbon, plus a fantastic rendition of The Goo Goo Dolls’ 1995 banger, Name.
“We had the idea to make an acoustic album a few years back, and it was always a project we wanted to pursue,” the band states regarding The Talco Tapes, “We thought it would be a great passion project for us that the fans would love, while also showing people that we are more than just a rock band.”
That last part is something worth thinking about. For country music purists, the new red dirt rock ‘n’ roll scene may not be their cup of tea, and you hear murmurs from time to time of the music being shallow party songs for college kids. Treaty Oak proves here that they have soul and are more than what these people perceive them as. This album really is something that can bring people around and frankly, this was probably the best possible release the band could have dropped at this point.

When it comes to the Goo Goo Dolls cover, Name, Treaty Oak delivers. When you look at when the original was released, it’s safe to assume the boys from the band grew up with this tune, so it must be personal for them. The slow, elegant Name is something you wouldn’t expect Treaty Oak to cover, which makes it so much more satisfying when they absolutely nail it.
The Talco Tapes is a fantastic release that shows the other side of Treaty Oak Revival, and it’s great to see. This will bring in new fans who prefer more of a stripped-down approach to Texas music and show that this is a group who can do it all. Go listen to The Talco Tapes today!
