The Raised Rowdy Podcast is all about bringing you the best up-and-coming artists in country, rock, and everything in between. This time around, I sat down solo with Brayden Stewart, a 19-year-old Texas-based artist who’s blending alternative rock, country, and Americana into something completely his own. If you haven’t heard his name yet, get ready, because he’s making waves in all the right places.
From Metallica to Matchbox 20: Brayden’s Musical Roots
Brayden’s story starts like a lot of ours—digging through his dad’s CD collection. But unlike most kids who pick a single lane, Brayden was all over the map musically. Metallica and heavy rock were early influences, thanks to his dad. His mom, on the other hand, introduced him to the ‘90s alternative world of Matchbox 20 and Candlebox. Somewhere in between, he found his way to the Red Dirt and Texas country sound, with Cross Canadian Ragweed and Stoney LaRue rounding out his early inspirations.
But the moment that changed everything? Tyler Childers’ Purgatory. That album flipped a switch for him, and from there, he dove deep into songwriting. Soon, he was obsessed with Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson—artists who combine razor-sharp storytelling with undeniable musicianship.
Finding His Sound
If you had to put a label on Brayden’s sound, you’d probably struggle, just like he does. “Alternative songwriter stuff” is what he calls it. It’s not exactly country, not exactly rock, but somewhere in between—rooted in honest songwriting with an edge. That’s probably why when he played our Nuthin’ Fancy showcase in Nashville, I got multiple texts from people in the crowd asking, Who the hell is this kid?
His live shows have that effect. Whether it’s in a full-band setting or a stripped-down songwriter round, Brayden stands out. It’s not just the songs—it’s the way he delivers them. It’s the energy, the guitar playing, and the way he pulls from rock and country influences without trying to fit into one box.
Carving Out a Lane in Texas and Beyond
Texas has always been home to the kind of artists who blur genre lines, and Brayden is no exception. He’s been out playing honky-tonks and dance halls, but he’s not just another Texas country artist. “There are full-on rock bands playing Texas bars right now, and people are loving it,” he told me. That’s the lane he’s falling into—gritty, loud, and unapologetic.
He’s also been linking up with some of the best young artists in the scene. He’s opened for Cole Barnhill, Sterling Elza, and even Texas rockers Blacktop Mojo. These aren’t just any opening slots—these are proving grounds, and Braden is making sure he leaves his mark every time he steps on stage.
The Debut Record: 100% Authentic
Brayden’s got music out, but his debut full-length project is what’s really got us excited. Instead of heading to a polished Nashville studio, he and his band locked themselves in a cabin in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, with producer Philip Mosley. They recorded for four or five days straight, just living in the songs. The result? A record that’s raw, real, and 100% Brayden Stewart.
The first single, coming February 28th, has already been turning heads online, and with more music on the way in April, this is shaping up to be a massive breakout year.
The Road Ahead
Brayden’s got tour dates lined up with Cole Barnhill, more shows with Blacktop Mojo, and plans for his own headlining runs once the music starts rolling out. But for him, it’s not just about playing shows—it’s about getting better. “There’s nothing more inspiring than playing with someone better than you,” he said. That hunger to keep pushing himself is what’s going to take him to the next level.
One thing’s for sure—Brayden Stewart isn’t just another young artist hoping for a shot. He’s taking his own path, blending rock and country in a way that makes sense for him. And if the reaction from fans (and other artists) is any indication, that path is going to take him a long way.
