Georgia Native Scoot Teasley is Bringing Soul to Country Music

Some artists are born into music, and others stumble into it along the way. For Scoot Teasley, it started behind a drum kit in a small-town Georgia church and led him to becoming one of the most exciting up-and-coming voices in country music. Now, he’s making the move to Nashville and stepping fully into his next chapter.

Scoot recently joined us on the Raised Rowdy Podcast, and we got to dive deep into his journey, his influences, and what’s coming next for him.

From Georgia Roots to Nashville Dreams

Born and raised in Northeast Georgia, Scoot’s first connection to music was through church. Like so many Southern artists before him, his early years were spent singing in the kids’ choir and playing drums in the church band. But it wasn’t until high school, when he took a guitar class just to fill a credit requirement, that he realized he had a voice worth sharing.

“I was playing guitar and singing one day at church, and they were like, ‘Wait, you can actually sing?’” Scoot recalled. “I was like, ‘I guess so.’”

What started as casual performances turned into a passion, and soon, he was posting covers of country songs on TikTok. One of his earliest videos—covering Morgan Wallen’s unreleased song “Thought You Should Know”—gained traction, pulling in thousands of views. Encouraged by the response, Scoot kept posting, eventually racking up hundreds of thousands of views on videos covering artists like Tyler Childers.

Making the Leap to Nashville

Though he’s been back and forth from Georgia to Nashville for a while, Scoot has finally decided to make Music City his home. After spending the past year writing and refining his craft, the timing just felt right.

“I put a lot of miles on my car, but it was worth it,” he said. “Now being up here full-time, I can do this whenever I want.”

That move also makes it easier for him to collaborate with his songwriting crew, including Mason Thornley and John Stark. The trio has been writing together for over a year and has helped shape Scoot’s evolving sound. One of the highlights of his journey so far? Getting to co-write with none other than Nelly.

“I was in town for a trip, and my publishers were like, ‘Yo, Nelly’s coming in. Can you stay the weekend?’” Scoot shared. “And then two days before, they were like, ‘Alright, you’re gonna be writing with Nelly.’”

That session resulted in a song that may eventually see the light of day, but for now, Scoot is focused on rolling out new music of his own.

New Music & What’s Next

With a fresh slate of songs in the works, 2024 is shaping up to be a breakout year for Scoot. His latest single, “Gone to Dust,” was rewritten on the morning of his first CMA Fest appearance and is already one of his favorite songs he’s ever written.

“I remember finishing the write and thinking, ‘This is the best one I’ve ever written,’” he said. “I just felt really, really good about it.”

A few more singles and another EP are on the way, but for now, Scoot is soaking in the experience of living in Nashville and continuing to grow as an artist. He’s got the talent, the work ethic, and now, the city around him to take things to the next level.
