Mitchell Ferguson had quite the year in 2023, releasing some of my personal favorite songs in that span of time – tunes including Hurt So Bad, Nowadays, Over It and more. This May, he dropped Breathe, which showed just how diverse he is if no one got the hint yet, and it killed. On December 6th, Ferguson released a new EP called Y’all Take Requests? (Live Vol. 1), which features four live tracks. These tracks are his own renditions of Frank Ocean’s Thinkin Bout You, The Fray’s Over My Head (Cable Car), Miley Cyrus’s The Climb and The 1975’s All I Need To Hear.
The ambiance is excellent thanks to the production work by Taylor Kimball, creating a sonic feel that really makes you feel like you’re in the room. Ferguson’s vocals are quite literally one of the best in the Texas music scene at the moment, and you can see why by listening to this EP – he’s truly underrated and your favorite Texas vocalist’s favorite vocalist. There’s no question he does justice to these tunes, putting his own unique spin of soul and country on them.
Whenever Mitchell Ferguson drops any new music – single, EP, album, original, cover… don’t matter, it’s a good day. Go ahead and give Y’all Take Requests? (Live Vol. 1) a listen now!
