There is a fantastic group of female artists that have been killing it out west, with Graycie York being one of the singer-songwriters leading the charge. She has proven in the last few years how well she can craft a song and illustrate exactly what she’s trying to say in the most effective way possible through her music. Her past few singles were very well written and show the diversity in style she has, namely Bitchin’ to Bitch, which came out in September. Her newest release, Dust, is another example we can add to that list.
In terms of the songwriting and musical aspect, Dust offers a compelling blend of introspection and a haunting, but beautiful, melody. York really paints a good picture of vulnerability, loss and the emotional effect it can have on a person over time. She does very well at relating these themes to the listener, which is the key to a well-written song of this nature. The melody is gentle, stripped-back and compliments the lyrics well. Spotlighted here is mainly York’s voice with a smooth, laid-back arrangement to back her up.
Dust shows how much Graycie York has matured in songwriting and as an artist. She is definitely worth keeping an eye on with each release, because there is a lot of talent there that is going to be well-known soon. Go listen to Dust now!
