Rising country star Redferrin released “Ruin My Night,” his latest single, last Friday via Round Here Records. A follow-up to his song “Just Like Johnny,” which has been blowing up on streaming platforms with nearly 45 million Spotify spins, this one shows his softer side, even as he pines after a girl who isn’t good for him.
It was co-written by Redferrin, Jake Saghi, and Jackson Foote, a mega-hitmaker with credits ranging from Tate McRae to Jennifer Lopez. This collaboration reflects Redferrin’s own versatile talent as a songwriter — alongside his career as a solo artist, he’s landed cuts with Nelly, Florida Georgia Line, and more.
“Ruin My Night” kicks off with spacey country guitar plucks over a breezy pop acoustic riff before Redferrin comes in with his recognizable croon, describing how his love interest draws him in while simultaneously torturing him. In the chorus, he turns the conflict into a seriously catchy hook, drawing parallels between the girl and the booze he turns to when their love drives him crazy.
It’s a universal idea, and an inherently country one: whiskey and love both have their ups and downs, and each is a source of comfort when the other lets you down. As always, Redferrin nails it, and this is sure to be one of the best country choruses of the season. Check it out here:
