I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we’ve been pumped for Fox N’ Vead’s newest record, Barely Getting By, for a while. On October 25th, the group finally dropped it.
Fox N’ Vead are truly one of the few groups leading the charge in their unique niche of style – the mixture of rock, folk, country, pop and everything in between is what makes these boys so special and leaves fans wanting to come back for more. They have been killing it with their string of singles they have been putting out leading up to Barely Getting By’s release, which include Too Far Gone, Through Those Eyes and more.
This record really shows off what Fox N’ Vead are capable of creatively. The sonic element and aesthetic of the album is very present throughout, while also keeping you on your toes as you never know which style the guys are going to pull out of their pocket on the next track. Some great examples of that is the softer, more low key IYLS1 being followed up by the head-banging and heavy Too Far Gone and Toxic Love.
If the group wanted to make a statement with this record, I think it’s safe to say they accomplished just that. You get a real feel of what Fox N’ Vead are all about – intense when they need to be while also being able to reel it back in to convey serious emotion. There’s also another checkbox that they hit with this release that is often overlooked and can be a hidden bonus point for newly released albums more often than not. Fox N’ Vead manages to give you a very clear image of their live show and sound with their attitude and effort put in here, which at the end of the day is their talent at its rawest form.
Barely Getting By is unskippable and a solid ten out of ten, also being a very real contender for my album of the year. Do yourself a solid and give it a listen, and keep an eye on Fox N’ Vead – they’ll blow up before you know it!
