Austin Meade is back in the lab, and this time he brought some friends.
Meade is one of the most unique and consistently fresh artists in the Texas game, and by now his music has reached way beyond regional. His last few releases prove he is here to stay and here to rock. BLACKOUT was quite the step upon its release, showing a new side of Meade’s experimental progression. After a rendition with Asking Alexandria’s Danny Worsnop, he also dropped the absolute killer STONER FANTASY, which basically wraps up Meade’s sound and style in a nice bow. Now we have his newest tune, INSIGNIFICANT OTHER.
The release includes his original version, and also one featuring Sam Canty and Lance Vanley of Treaty Oak Revival, a band that has absolutely exploded onto the Texas scene in the past year. The songwriting on this track is masterfully done, with an A-1 melody, hook that won’t leave you and the song’s image that is illustrated wonderfully – something that Meade has always been able to do, even back in his Waves days. I’m loving the heavy, in-your-face sound in these past few singles, it’s just so smooth and chaotic balanced perfectly on a sonic level. The band is tight, the vocal work is at its best, and it really shows how much Meade has progressed amongst his peers.
The addition of Canty and Vanley is a welcomed one, especially with Canty and Meade’s verses trading back and forth, pairing perfectly even though their voices are so different. When it comes to Austin Meade, he still seems like the underdog. It’s crazy though, because going back and listening to these past few singles, the last couple records… he is way ahead of the game – even more so than peers of his who are “ahead” of him in accolades and apparent accomplishments. Even though he is most definitely going to be a big name in the rock scene and is already approaching that landmark, the hustle and drive he applies to his work is what keeps people coming back, and that is something that we love to see constantly from him.
Austin Meade is not only one of the most underrated Texas musicians, but also one of the most underrated rock musicians in general today. The creativity, uniqueness, live show… he’s the complete package. If you haven’t listened to him or seen him live, make sure to get on that. Start out by jamming to his newest single featuring Treaty Oak Revival’s Sam Canty and Lance Vanley, INSIGNIFICANT OTHER.
