Them boys from Murfreesboro have done it again. Revelry killed it with their debut EP, South of Nashville, back in March, and really showed what they were made of. They have yet to really disappoint with any of their releases, staying consistently tight and progressing non-stop when it comes to originality, creativity and just straight-up hustle. On July 24th, Revelry added another bop to the rotation with their newest single, Rollin’.
Bassist Dane Lovvorn had this to say about the tune:
“A career in music isn’t easy. It is filled with friends and relationships you make on your journey, along with enemies and closed doors. Enjoy the positives but never settle. Take the negatives with a grain of salt. No one is going to take you to the top besides yourself. Stay relevant and never give up. Our answer to this problem is a single every month. Now, we present you with Rollin’.”
It would be so cliché to say something like “they give off Lynyrd Skynyrd vibes” or something like that, but while they absolutely own that southern rock aesthetic and sound, Revelry brings their own intensity, edge and charisma that really sets them apart and establishes them in their own space as a group. In Rollin’, the guitar rips, Zack Montgomery destroys the mic as usual, the bass is prominent and groovy, Cruze Blanke drops the heaviness with his hard-hitting drum work, but a standout is Cassidy Daniels, who was recruited to sing some background vocals. I’m a sucker for some soulful, gospel-esque backups, and her contribution fit perfectly with Revelry’s sound.
“Rollin’ is a song about running away from the monotony of day to day life and leaving your worries behind for something new and better, which is a feeling I think most people can relate to,” guitarist Redd Byrd states, “Maybe everyone isn’t able to just up and leave in search of a new life, but if you close your eyes and crank the speakers, you might feel yourself ‘rollin” away”.”
Rollin’ is fantastic, and even though we just got a solid EP not too long ago, and now this, I am still just chomping at the bit for more Revelry tunes, as are many other fans. I reckon that’s a good problem to have if you’re in the band, though. Everyone please do yourself a favor and give Rollin’ a listen, and if you haven’t checked out Revelry yet, get hip to it and go to their previous releases to catch up!
