Tyler Braden continued his kick of spiritual-themed songs last Friday with “More Than A Prayer.” The blazing track follows his first new song of 2024, “The Devil You Know,” which arrived in February. Both tunes use religious tropes to add a layer of intensity, and it works.
“More Than A Prayer,” co-written by Devin Dawson, Heath Warren, and Sam Martinez, is a high-octane barnburner fueled by one of the most badass choruses of the summer. Written as a plea to the Big Man Upstairs, Braden paints a stark picture of his heartbreak and the red-dressed girl who tortures him. Gettin’ over her is going to take a “hell of a lot more than a prayer.” In typical fashion, he builds a vivid world with his rich imagery and conversational lyrics.
