Combustion Masters artist Payton Smith dropped his latest song, “She’s Going to Town,” last Friday. Co-written by Jeff Garrison, Jim McCormick, and Payton Smith, the tune puts a heartbreak spin on the idiom “going to town” by describing a city girl who’s done with the country life. She got a taste of it during a fling with a guy from the county over, but when things went south she went back downtown.
The song is a barn-burner if there ever was one. Equal parts head-banging rock and countrified pop, it delivers all catchy melodies and smooth-talking lyrics that fans of Smith have come to love. It also features one of the best sing-along choruses we’ve heard in a minute.
“She’s Going to Town” follows five-song short-player Up From Here which he dropped in April. In the short two months since then, the EP has already racked up nearly a million streams on Spotify alone. The new music comes just in time, because Smith’s gearing up to launch a string of shows through July (including two opening up for Hank Williams Jr.).
