Country headliner Kolby Cooper released his latest single, “Running Away,” last Friday. The rock-forward track, which has already amassed over 70k spins on Spotify, packs a serious punch both sonically and emotionally. In it, the singer pleads with a distant lover to come back, if only for one night. In typical Cooper fashion, he expertly doses the country song with alternative rock sounds for a unique blend of the two genres.
“When we finished writing ‘Running Away,’ I felt that I had written my favorite song, and I still feel that way today,” Cooper said in a release. “This song is about a world where my wife and I never actually got together, and the constant struggle of trying to convince her that it’s meant to be and that it will all work out.”
“Running Away” kicks off with a plucked electric guitar coated in canyon-deep reverb and gradually builds in energy throughout the verse, then dives into an epic down-chorus before crashing into a head-banging rock segment. Each chorus gets larger from there, boasting Cooper’s arena-level rock chops.
“Running Away” is Cooper’s third release of the year, following “Hello From The Road” and “Kill Me.” It arrives as he continues his headlining tour, which runs across the country and throughout the rest of 2023. Check out his upcoming live dates here, and listen to “Running Away” below:
