A Guide to The Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival

It’s that time of year again in Nashville, Tennessee… The 31st Annual Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival is upon us!

The largest festival of its kind, Tin Pan South has been a Nashville staple since 1993, bringing together big name artists and their favorite songwriting collaborators. This year’s event will be the biggest to date, spanning 5 days across 10 venues with 98 shows featuring over 400 performers!

With so many options to choose from and only two time slots at each location, here are some of our favorite rounds happening this week!

Tuesday 3/28

6pm – Live Oak Music Row

Megan Moroney, Jon Nite, Dave Pittenger, Allison Veltz Cruz

Our favorite watering hole in town is Live Oak Music Row. Like most nights, Live Oak’s lineup is STACKED, featuring some great talent that includes Megan Moroney! Pretty cool to see Meg back at Live Oak, where she once was a regular at my In The Round Songwriters’ Nights. Alongside Meg are Jon Nite (causal writer with 14 NUMBER 1’s), Dave Pittenger and Allison Veltz Cruz. Definitely a solid way to kick off TPS 2023!

9pm – Hard Rock Cafe

Ray Fulcher, Neil Medley, Drew Parker & Austin Snell

Who doesn’t love a stacked round featuring 4 HEAVY Hitters??? Hits on Hits on Hits from our boys Ray, Neil, Drew and Austin. It usually takes some strong convincing for me to make a trip down to Broadway these days, but this lineup will for sure have me downtown on Night 1 of the festival!

Wednesday 3/29

6pm –The Listening Room

Jacob Davis, Will Jones, Ian Munsick & Marc Scibillia

If you like DAMN country music this event is for you. Featuring some different styles, from the modern “Nashville Sound” of Jacob Davis, to some more on the pop side that Marc Scibillia (shoutout fellow NY native) brings to the table, and of course traditional country and western styles that Will Jones and Ian Munsick will bless you with. A great night at Nashville’s High Society Dinner Theatre, this a trip worth making  to The Listening Room.

9pm –Cross-Eyed Critters @ The Graduate Hotel

Grady Block, Jordan Dozzi, Cody Lohden & Special Guest

One of the events that I am most excited for has to be Wednesday night at Cross-Eyed Critters! Usually a karaoke bar where we get our recreational degeneracy out, this fine establishment will be playing host to some incredibly talented friends of ours. Grady, Jordan and Cody are some of my personal favorite names that I’m sure many haven’t heard of yet. If you’re a fan of Morgan Wallen or Ernest you definitely won’t want to miss this (especially with a “special guest” on the bill, wink wink).

Thursday 3/30

6pm – 3rd & Lindsley

Chase Rice, Trannie Anderson, Jordan Walker &  Matt Rogers

TPS proudly embraces the idea of bringing artists and their co-writers together for many events, and Thursday at 3rd & Lindsley is a perfect example. You get Chase Rice, someone you almost NEVER get in an intimate setting; Trannie Anderson, who’s been crushing it with some big time cuts, most notably with our girl Lainey Wilson; Matt Rogers, an absolute legend of a songwriter; AND to top it all off, arguably one of the most entertaining guys to see on a round, Jordan Talker…I mean Jordan Walker. Y’all won’t wanna miss this round for sure!

9pm – Hard Rock Cafe

Barrett Baber, Ian Christian, Claire Ernst, Lynn Hutton & Brett Sheroky

This will be a great night at the Hard Rock with some of our Sea Gayle Music fam. All of these folks have played ITR or Rowdy on The Row in the past and have some serious firepower when it comes to songwriting. Thursday nights downtown are rare for us, but you can bet we’ll be downtown at the Hard Rock for this one.

Friday 3/31

6pm – Live Oak Music Row

Lewis Brice, Dylan Marlowe & John Morgan

We return to Live Oak on Friday for a great round featuring some friends of the program: Lewis Brice, Dylan Marlowe, and John Morgan. I’ve known these 3 for a while, particularly Dylan and John, who I’ve had the pleasure of watching first come to town and become writers with BIG CUTS and artists who have been touring the country with hits of their own. Live Oak 6pm on Friday – be there!

9pm – The Lounge at City Winery

Adam Craig, Jason Duke, Jason Massey & Keesy Timmer

Friday nights at City Winery may not be the most usual thing to do in Nashville, however, with this lineup, you’ll wanna swing by. Adam Craig, Jason Duke, Jason Massey and Keesy Timmer are all badass writers with some cuts and incredible voices that you won’t want to miss!

Saturday 4/1

6pm – The Analog at Hutton Hotel

Jim Collins, Matt McKinney & Rivers Rutherford

Saturday night will be going out with a BANG! 6pm features a trip to the Analog at The Hutton Hotel to watch legends Jim Collins & Rivers Rutherford alongside one Nashville’s finest up and comers, Matt McKinney. All 3 of these guys have hits that y’all have heard performed by big names: Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Brooks & Dunn, Elle King, Jordan Davis and a song about Dallas by our boy Trey Lewis. You won’t wanna miss this one!

9pm – 3rd & Lindsley

Jeffrey Steele & Friends

No better way to close out TPS 2023 than with the legend that is Jeffrey Steele and his talented group of friends. The man has shaped country music for the last few decades, hustling as a writer and artist with a style that is uniquely his own. Don’t miss the opportunity to see one of the GOATs wrap up the festival!
