Bowling For Soup Dropped a Cover of Miley Cyrus’s ‘Flowers’ and it SLAPS

Pop-punk band Bowling For Soup has dropped a cover of Miley Cyrus’s new big single, “Flowers.” The BFS rendition has been out for a couple weeks now, but I just feel like it’s a tune that should be highlighted. Those of us who listen to punk, pop-punk and any other bands under the same umbrella as BFS know that there are some killer covers that were crafted in that style. Whether you refer to groups like Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, who have multiple great covers under their belt, or the Punk Goes Pop series, there’s many to choose from.

BFS’s “Flowers” keeps the melody and cadence very similar to Cyrus’s, but the additions of the downpicked riffs, booming drums, and lead singer Jaret Reddick’s distinctive voice are very welcomed. Also, while we’re on the topic of Reddick, I encourage all of you to give his solo record a listen. His 2022 country album is called Just Woke Up. A lot of people scoff at the idea of rock musicians going the country route, and there are certainly justified instances through the years, but boy was I pleasantly surprised with how solid it was. Reddick’s humorous and clever songwriting that set BFS apart is present in his own solo record, which is a huge selling point.

Anyway, make sure to give that a listen as well as Bowling For Soup’s newest single, a punk rockin’ cover of Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers.”
