Austin Upchurch Teams Up with Bowling For Soup for Rendition of ‘Almost’

I saw something posted on the inter-webs recently about pop-punk not being dead, it’s just in Texas. Well, it can’t get any more obvious than a rapidly rising up-and-coming Texas artist teaming up with one of the most popular pop-punk bands in history. Austin Upchurch got together with Bowling For Soup’s Jaret Reddick for a different take on the band’s 2004 hit, “Almost.”

“Our producer Ben and I were looking at ways to expand our reach and really wanted to work with a non-‘Texas country’ band, and Bowling For Soup is a more locally based successful band. I DM’d Jaret, the lead singer, he hit me back almost immediately and was like ‘hell yeah, let’s do it!'”, Upchurch recalled.

The song stays very true to the original recording, but Upchurch and his band put their own sound into it. He trades verses with Reddick and boy, does it mix well. This is a collaboration we didn’t know we needed, but we are thankful it happened. Upchurch spotlighted his range and ability to tackle another genre and we hope to see more of this kind of sound in the future.

Now give it a listen!
