With all the buzz of new artists in Nashville it’s easy to blend in or get lost in the shuffle of demos and pitches, but I knew from the first listen of a phone-recorded work tape that Lamar, SC native Jordan Gray had a voice that was going to stay high on my radar. It hasn’t come easy or happened overnight, but Gray recently found himself in a full circle moment nearly 5 years after catching the attention of JD Groover, Sr. Creative Director at Sea Gayle Music.
“I met JD several years ago in Georgia and we reconnected a few years later at Whiskey Jam,” recalls Gray. “At the time, I had no idea he was at Sea Gayle. I see it as a God thing that we met up again and now get to work together.”
Gray made the decision to move to Nashville following the success of his song “Stay the Night” which amassed over 10 million streams. The track was featured on his 2015 EP West of the Pines which Gray wrote, produced, engineered, and played all the instruments on. The release helped him build a following on streaming and social media platforms, ultimately setting him up for the move. While getting acclimated to his new surroundings, he began building relationships with many writers and publishers, but Gray was drawn to the team at Sea Gayle, making the decision to team up a no-brainer when the offer came his way.
After some single releases for tracks like “One More Shot” and “Backroads” Jordan took his time really finding his sound for his first release of 2021 “This song means a lot to me” says Gray. “I wrote it with my childhood friend and frequent writing partner, Nate Jones.” Sometimes familiar friends can help you tell your story better than anyone and that is the case with this track. Just in time for Summer and ready to be played at your next Tailgate or pool party Jordan’s new track is one you need to pay attention to.
This is just the beginning for Gray and we are hot on his trail for what’s to come. Jordan has been honing his craft since hitting the scene years ago and he’s coming to make 2021 his year.
