‘Lonesome Cowboy’ not Stapleton’s first Disney/Pixar recording

I was never a big animated movie fan, but when I saw Toy Story the first time, I absolutely loved it. The second one was even better! So, when I heard Toy Story 4 was coming out, I got really excited. Then I saw where Chris Stapleton penned a tune for the soundtrack, and it got me a little nostalgic.

“The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy” released today. Written by Randy Newman, it tells the story of Toy Story’s beloved cowboy Woody. The soundtrack will be available from Walt Disney Records on June 21 as the film opens in U.S. theaters nationwide.

This isn’t Stapleton’s first time on a Disney/Pixar record, but my guess is you’ve either forgotten or never knew about the absolute goldmine that was “Ratatouille: What’s Cooking” from 2007. This (sort of weird) record had some of the best blues-country and jazz tunes I’ve ever heard, even if the subject matter is food.

Just goes to show that Chris Stapleton can not only write and sing some of the best country music on earth, but also pretty much anything else he wants.
