Cole German: Raised Rowdy Contributor
There is something about Cody Johnson’s voice and its ability to bring you back to the good ole days of country music. The Texas native has finally blessed his fans with the release of his highly anticipated album, Aint’ Nothin To It. Produced by Trent Willmon, the album features the single, On My Way to You, that was released back in August and peaked at #23 on the US Hot Country Songs Chart. Lets dive a little deeper into some of the songs.
Dear Rodeo
This one has been out for a little while now but it is one of those songs that doesn’t seem to age. In this tune, Johnson reflects back on his days as a professional bull rider. After a number of broken bones, Cojo, ended up trading in his chaps for a guitar. This is a career move that I think many people are now thankful for.
Y’all People (Dedicated to the Cojo Nation)
This one’s for the fans! This song pays homage to the everyday member of the CoJo nation and all those who embody what it means to be a true country music fan. They’ll drink you under the table, fight you if they need to, but will also give you the shirt off of their back.
Monday Morning Merle
Another pre-released song, one of my favorites, follows around a broken-hearted man and watches him live his life vicariously through some classic music. I think this is something that we all can relate too. Through the highs and the lows, there is always a song there for us. Some help us celebrate while others sometimes keep us afloat. This song greatly represents the necessity of music.
Ain’t Nothin’ to It
Boy, CoJo did not disappoint with the title track. If you’re lucky enough to be able to sit down and get advice from your father, do it. Life is hard and the road will twist and turn. You are going to want to quit and give up several times but if you just stick to your guns, and listen to that voice in the back of your head telling you to keep going, there really Ain’t Nothin’ To It.
CoJo will be at the Druid City Music Hall in Tuscaloosa, AL on January 19th and will kick of his National Tour on March 21st at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, GA. You can follow him on Twitter and Instagram @codyjohnson.
